US and UK ambassadors to Russia lay Navalny tributes
In a show of solidarity with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the ambassadors of the United States and the United Kingdom to Russia have laid tributes at his headquarters in Moscow.
Navalny, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was recently arrested upon his return to Russia after recovering from a near-fatal poisoning. His detention has sparked widespread protests and international condemnation.
The US Ambassador, John Sullivan, and UK Ambassador, Deborah Bronnert, laid flowers and candles at Navalny’s office, expressing their support for his fight against corruption and repression in Russia.
The tributes come as the European Union considers imposing sanctions on Russian officials involved in Navalny’s arrest. The ambassadors’ gesture is seen as a symbolic act of defiance against the Russian government’s crackdown on dissent.
Despite the risks of diplomatic tensions, the US and UK ambassadors have signaled their commitment to standing up for human rights and democracy in Russia, and their support for Navalny’s cause.
